Isaiah 6:1-8 In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple. 2 Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly. 3 And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory. 4 And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke. 5 Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts. 6 Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar: 7 And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged. 8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me. The first 5 chapters seem to encompass a large timeperiod of several kings; this passage gets into a specific time when Uzziah died and the fact it is case specific for Isaiah one would think it would be the beginning of the Book of Isaiah. As to this; and the apparent two divisions of the book I will leave it to others here that have more knowledge on the subject as to why it is structured that way; one could; for example ask similar questions in Psalms that appear to be out of order; and have a hodgepodge of others intertwined along with themes in an apparently disjointed manner. The vision of Isaiah and similarity to Ezekiel; Daniel and John's experience as well as his sudden realization of his own "unclean lips" and those of the land overall is something I have covered a number of times before. His commission after the symbolic atonement with the hot coal from the seraphim (no doubt analogous to the atonement to come with Christ) was followed by an immediate sending forth. Who will go for us in verse 8 once again no doubt points to the "trinity" or for those who would prefer the aspect of the Godhead speaking as one. Isaiah is ready for the call. Verses 9-13 9 And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not. 10 Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed. 11 Then said I, Lord, how long? And he answered, Until the cities be wasted without inhabitant, and the houses without man, and the land be utterly desolate, 12 And the Lord have removed men far away, and there be a great forsaking in the midst of the land. 13 But yet in it shall be a tenth, and it shall return, and shall be eaten: as a teil tree, and as an oak, whose substance is in them, when they cast their leaves: so the holy seed shall be the substance thereof. Verses 9 and 10 bring out the blinding God Himself has put on those Jews in Israel. We see this in Matthew 15:13 (or 13:15); also it is in Acts 28. Verse 11-13 shows once again the concept of the last days desolation; a diaspora (verse 12) and a remnant returning; which we see in other places (similar ideas in Daniel and Isaiah). The overlapping themes and cross references in these prophetic books I am focusing on now; are no doubt also prominent in all Scripture. A gig point that can be made is that men never learns without supernatural enlightenment. This can be seen in the final irony of the end of the Millennium period; where men lived as close to Eden as possible; and yet they still will en masse follow Satan in the final rebellion; proving descendants from the original group who were all saved starting that period still were as blind as ever. Men everywhere like to act as though they are naturally good an peaceful; humanism proports that we all can live in a world of peace and harmony; much like John Lennon's infamous and I must say demonically inspired song where he imagined; let's just say a world with this mindset and of course no heaven or no hell. Obedience to the Lord will be something that; even with a system of perfect justice and righteousness and peace when King and Messiah Jesus Christ rules men will secretly desire to overthrow; they will wait no doubt for a long time under the radar until they suddenly fling out seeing the release of Satan as somehow indicating he set himself free from an attempted imprisonment and they will be inspired to overthrow Christ once again; somehow overlooking what happened the last time they tried it; and this time forthwith God will end their rebellion and the final judgment will commence. Richard, Greetings of peace! The regenerated man is very accountable for his understanding in Christ Jesus.
