That the scriptures warn of “ false apostles” would imply there are real ones . That we have so many false prophets and apostles parading themselves beforeGods people making “ merchandise” of them indicates two things . A grave lack of discernment among Gods people who many might fit the “ people with itching ears” unable to endure sound doctrine etc. And Despite many a boast little knowledge of the Holy Spirit beyond being BORN again. The 5 mentioned ministries in Ephesians are not separated but all are necessary for the perfection of the church and if you need “ pastors teachers evangelists etc you need also prophets and aPostles who’s primary purpose is given in the same chapter . That the idea that we no longer need prophets and apostles is perhaps the very reason the church today is so wayward? And in much confusion “tossed about with every wind of doctrine .” But we should understand what a true Apostle is. Which the pattern must be Paul and while we might not get another Paul he is the pattern to which we should in some measure measure an Apostle For we should not blindly accept anyone who calls themselves an Apostle or proclaimed as one but be patient and watch and pray to see if they are . Popes have led billions down the road road to destruction who have blindly led them to believe heretical doctrines and today we have them in the ‘ Protestant’ church teaching “doctrines of devils” also . The Lord only needed 12 . All of them save John perhaps were martyred and who Paul said were counted as the” offscouring” of the earth . That is the scum you scrape off the top of a cooking stew. Quite different from many today . Apostles areas rare as hens teeth ,I suggest they do not go about parading themselves or performing on the worlds stage of Christendom . Prophets equally so and they are more than those who might by the Holy Spirit prophecy .
