Did Jesus's disciples ask if they should pray to him
I have never read that they asked Jesus that question. Maybe, while the bridegroom was present in their midst there was no need for specific prayer to Jesus (as we understand praying now); even as Jesus always directed their prayer (as was His also) to the Father.
But after Jesus died and rose from the dead, He was not only not amongst them physically, but also referred to as "the Lord from Heaven" (1 Corinthians 15:47). Maybe your question is directed to this matter: should we now pray to Jesus? Well, the Bible speaks for itself in a number of instances. You could check out the following: John 14:14; Acts 7:59; Romans 10:12; 1 Corinthians 1:2; 2 Corinthians 12:7-9; Revelation 22:20. And of course, the risen Lord Jesus is worshiped in Heaven alongside the Father: Hebrews 1:6; Revelation 5:11,12. I believe that we can worship and pray to the risen Lord Jesus, the One Who proceeded from the Father (the Word of God made flesh) and now seated with the Father receiving the petitions and worship of all in Heaven and Earth.
The purpose of Jesus was primarily to reconcile us to God Almighty the Father .
“ I am the way the truth and the life no man cometh unto the Father accept by me”.
When he rose from the dead and met Mary on that wonderful morning . She did not recognise him . Why? Because in her mind so impressed upon by the crucifixion the Lord was dead!
She wasn’t coming to the grave to see the resurrected Christ but with ointment for his dead body!
It was only when He said “ Mary” that pierced her soul in the only way He could with all the knowledge of her He had that her eyes were opened and she went to touch Him.
He forbade her to touch him “ For I have not yet gone unto my Fathetr”.
In the Old Testament the high priest carrying the blood of the sacrificial lamb on the day of Atonement was not to be touched till the blood was presented in the Holy of Holies .
Jesus being our High priest had to take his blood into the temple not made with hands to the Father it was only then could she later touch him.
When the disciples asked Him teach us to pray ( not preach) he replied “ Our Father………”
Note it is not my father but OUR Father .
Even in our o praying we must not just think of ourselves but our brethren also to OUR Father.
We are called to go boldly into the presence of God where only one could go before .
How many take the opportunity given to do so?
I would suggest that still only ONE may enter that mostHoly place . But it is not now the ‘ one’ of singularity because Jesus was and is the way . But the ONE of John 17 “ that they might be one even as we are one “ and find grace and mercy in time of need .
Many stay in the outer court so to speak . But are we not “ made priests and kings unto,God”?
Ad the same pattern of the curtain into the outer court of the tabernacles is the same pattern of the curtain into the holy place to which we ae a so-called .
In the outer court we have the natural light of the sun and pray by what we see .
But in that Holy place thee is no ‘natural ‘ light . But that of the 7 branched oil lamp on the one side and the bread representing the Word on the other .
Here we walk by faith not by sight .
And come to some measure of understanding we are serving God and our prayers reflect that .
